Spring is probably my favourite season. Flowers are blossoming, skies are clearing, layers are stripping off, and an abundance of colours surrounds us in nature, in fashion and festivities. It’s definitely vibrant.

And with it comes a lot of changes; emotional, work-related, and perhaps some seasonal health threats! *sniff sniff*

For me springtime seems to bring change in the form of a new challenge, a new job, letting go of something. Over the years, around March I started new jobs (2007, 2017, 2019) and quit other jobs (2007, 2015), this year I also moved house! It’s a time when I become more active and motivated.

I feel like spring is the best time to drop whatever you’ve been lagging and look forward to new beginnings. Here are some activities that help me get through the season.

Spring Cleaning

With the change of season, getting our home cleaned, cleared and organised is a good way to remove any clutter, make space for new beginnings, and feel the playfulness of spring. (Moving house made this exercise easier for me!)

My go to partners in a good spring clean are:

  • DoTerra OnGuard Cleaning Concentrate or Soap Nuts. I use them both simultaneously (depending on what I want to make). Both present natural, effective cleaning bases.
    • For the soap nuts, you will want to add essential oils like Tea tree, lemon and/or peppermint to the mixture for a refreshing scent and to assist in cleaning.
    • Whilst for the OnGuard Cleaning Concentrate, simply add to water (measurements are on the bottle) – it already contains OnGuard Essential Oil Blend.
  • Melaleuca – commonly known as tea tree, this multi-purpose essential oil is useful to make your own natural, non-toxic cleaning products. I also diffuse a few drops to help purify the air.
  • Peppermint – another household must-have. Using Peppermint essential oil in the diffuser will produce a cooling, invigorating vapour when the heat starts getting to you!

Buy your essential oils from a trusted source.

Breathe Easy

Seasonal Congestion and sniffles are common. To combat seasonal environmental threats in the home I diffuse Melaleuca.

If a feeling of congestion is brewing, I immediately go to Eucalyptus or Peppermint. I massage a few drops (diluted with fractionated coconut oil) onto the soles of the feet, and onto the chest. I also use Air – a propriety blend of Doterra – inhalation. Simply add two drops to warm water, cover your head, close your eyes and take a few deep inhalations.

Air Touch is a great companion on the go. Roll on a few circles to the chest, rub on the soles of the feet before bed. Rub on wrists or palm of the hand and inhale. Or you can also add drops to the ventilator of the car.

Enjoy Outdoors

Clean, Clear, Organise your home … but don’t forget to enjoy the great outdoors! Allocate time for moments in nature that helps boost our mental and physical wellbeing. Feel the warmth of the sun, the freshness of the mountains or the smell of the sea. Lay down in grass and touch the earth, feel grounded!

Skin care

Take this time of change for moments of self-care and skin-loving care. My skin scrub routine gets a little more serious as this time of the year as my skin starts to get exposed! Scrub & hydrate! You can get some inspiration from these coffee scrubs or a revitalising Mediterranean body scrub.

Be careful what essential oils you use in your products and take care of sun exposure. With most essential oils it is best to avoid sun exposure after application, make sure you rinse well after the scrub.

Increase physical activity

With the cold, bitter weather in the past, it’s now time to revitalise the body. Get your strength back and shed the winter gain from your hibernation! 30 minutes of exercise per day is recommended by most doctors to help reduce stress, improve mobility, stamina and strength as well as boosts confidence and mental wellbeing.

Don’t forget to take your exercise routine outdoors sometimes! Spring is the perfect time to enjoy nature and the outdoors!

You want to use natural products in the home, but you don’t know where to start? It’s time to eliminate toxic chemicals in your home once and for all!

Naturally Hannah and Mr Sprout will be hosting an online class – yes from the comfort of your sofa, kitchen, or bed! – to share with you natural cleaning solutions and tips – from our own practical experience – on how you and your family can live chemical free too!
